Connection Voucher Scheme extended through 2015/16
30th January 2015 Connectivity, Matthew Cox
The UK Government’s Connection Voucher Scheme – offering businesses grants of up to £3,000 to improve their internet speeds – has been extended to March 2016, with further cities invited to become SuperConnected.
The Connection Vouchers Scheme – launched by the UK Government in December 2013 and managed by BDUK and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport – gives qualifying businesses (particularly SMEs) in selected SuperConnected cities access to grants of up to £3,000 to improve the reliability and speed of their internet connectivity.
The scheme, originally set to end on 31st March 2015, is getting an additional £40 million funding and has been extended by a further 12 months to March 2016. A further 28 cities have also been invited to join the scheme from April 2015.
Notable cities to have been invited include Bournemouth, Reading, Southampton, Liverpool and Swansea – though the final list of participating cities will not be available until mid-February as the decision to join the scheme remains with the cities themselves.
